GABRIELA carries over a legacy of 30 years of organizing with a diverse community of women, students, workers, LGBTQ, parents, migrants, children, and professionals. While we vigorously campaign on women-specific issues such as women’s rights, gender discrimination, violence against women and women’s health and reproductive rights, GABRIELA is also at the forefront of national and international economic and political issues that affect women.
Who is a part of GABRIELA Los Angeles?
We are Filipino women, LGBTQ, and gender non-conforming people of all ages. We are educators, students, workers, artists, writers, cultural workers, service providers, community members, mothers, sisters, aunties, and daughters. We come from diverse backgrounds and identities, including women who identify as Filipino, mixed-heritage, immigrant, migrant, U.S. born, LGBTQ, and/or gender non-conforming.
Life experiences have connected us to the struggles and triumphs of Filipino history and culture, leading us to continue our commitment to social justice, the struggle for national democracy in the Philippines (genuine independence and true democracy), and our legacy of resistance as Filipina women.
