GABRIELA LA is a grassroots organization serving Filipinas in the Los Angeles community to address the rights and welfare of women through education, organizing, campaigns, and cultural work. We strive to build a mass movement recognizing that the problems Filipina women face are linked to the root problems of the Philippines.
GABRIELA is a grassroots-based alliance of more than 200 women’s organizations, institutions, desks, and programs. It was founded in the Philippines in 1984 and named after Gabriela Silang, the first Filipino woman to lead a revolt against the Spanish colonization of the Philippines. GABRIELA USA is the first overseas chapter of GABRIELA (in the Philippines) including members in Los Angeles, Seattle, New York, San Francisco, and Washington DC. We educate, organize, and mobilize Filipino women to fight for their rights & welfare through collective action.
